John Hall, founder of Help the Group
About the founder

I'm John Hall — and I'm one of the lucky ones.

I survived pancreatic cancer. Most people who hear that diagnosis don't. That fact has stuck with me, and it's why Help the Group exists.

Why I started this

Cancer kills 6 people in the United States every five minutes. More than one person every single minute. One in three of us will hear the word "cancer" pointed at our own chart at some point in our lives.

The charities doing the real work — St. Jude, Cancer Cares, the cancer research foundations — need money to keep going. But asking people to donate is a tough sell, especially for the people who would help if they could.

So I came up with a way to fund cancer services and research without anyone having to make a donation. Members join for free, share the link with people they know, and together the group funds monthly subscriptions to the charities that fight cancer for all of us.

It only works if the group is large. That's the whole point of the name.

What I do when I'm not doing this

I'm a real estate broker in Phoenix, Arizona — that's the day job. Help the Group is what I do because I'm still here to do it. After what I went through, sitting on the sidelines wasn't an option.

I'm not asking anyone for money. I'm asking you to join — and to invite a few other people who might want to join too. That's it. The rest takes care of itself once the group is big enough.

Will you help?

It takes about a minute to sign up. There's no donation, no credit card, no commitment beyond being part of a group that wants cancer gone.
